Thinking about making the move from ‘staffing recruitment into Talent Acquisition / Internal recruitment’?  Here are some of the similarities and differences between the two...

Talent Acquisition is a specialist skill, it is an ongoing mission to find talent for the business that you are passionate about. This mission can come in several guises, perhaps you are finding talent at the graduate level who become future leaders, technical specialists who solve the ongoing challenges or problems that your company is facing, or Senior Level talent to push the business to the next level.

The impact of a successful Talent Acquisition individual is felt right through to the Board or C-Suite level in any business.  If you are someone who enjoys recruitment, and looking for the next challenge but wants to be able to use your expertly honed people skills then Internal / Talent Acquisition could be for you.

If you are toying with the idea of moving into internal recruitment but unsure if it’s the right one for you, here are some facts (and a few myths) that you should consider before making the jump.

Sourcing:

Similarities:

  • Successful Agency recruiters will be successful internal recruiters if they have mastered the art of candidate attraction/sourcing and management.

Differences:

  • Candidate experience is key. You are the face of the company that you work for, you’ll often be the first experience that person has with your business.

Quality & Skills:

Similarities:

  • Proactive mindset
  • Team player
  • Relationship development
  • Results focussed
  • KPI driven

Differences:

  • More focus on quality, qualification and matching
  • More process & focus on attention to detail needed
  • More focus on the importance of the company culture you’re working for

Client Development:

Similarities:

  • Relationship development is just as, if not more important
  • Managing multiple relationships with varying hiring managers
  • Prioritisation of multiple roles across varying locations

Differences:

  • No cold calling for business
  • Your clients are in the building!
  • You can see the impact that you have on a business on a day-to-day basis

Career progression / Personal Development:

Taking the step into Internal Recruitment can lead to an incredibly varied career path whether its going into Operations roles, HR roles or building out a global Recruiting function…all routes are possible. One thing is for sure though, similarly to Agency recruitment, your career development and progression prospects come down to how hard you work and where your true skillsets lie.

Ask yourself these questions:

  • Am I still passionate about recruitment?
  • Do I enjoy the day to day sourcing, qualifying candidates?
  • Am I good at building relationships and managing recruitment processes?
  • Do I care about the career development of the people I place and want to see that progression day to day?
